At A Longer Table is dedicated to the tradition of sobremesa – the “art of savoring the conversation and company of others after a meal.” In the spirit of hospitality in all its forms, this longer table has been built to create a space to welcome all who seek community.

Mavi Viljoen (the artist formerly known as MA Giroux) is a hospitalitarian, writer, teacher, and urban godmother. She believes – to quote her spirit animal Auntie Mame – that “life’s a banquet and most poor sons of bitches are starving to death.” The author of the leadership blog LeaderSips, after multiple decades as a leader in the hospitality industry  she and her husband moved to Honduras to establish a bi-lingual tourism program for high school students. Shortly thereafter she was diagnosed with breast cancer and the hilarity of navigating a life-threatening illness in a foreign country ensued. She’s now entering the post-chemo season of her life wondering what door will open next.
